RIDE DETAILS

Rendezvous Point:

We will be using the services at Junction 28 on the A14 known as Cambridge Services again this year. The RVP will be the HGV parking area, marshals will be on site from early morning so please follow their directions for parking. The Services are only a few miles from the Cemetery and have all the usual facilities; food, drink, fuel, cashpoint as well as having a Motel in case anyone wants to come down/up the night before. Order of events

11:30 - Final arrival time for riders to be at Cambridge Services (to complete check-in registration).

12:30 - Ride commences.

           - Arrive American War Cemetery.

13:25 - Address by event founder (Bob Parker).

13:30 - Dedication ceremony by the AMRR Chaplain, this will include wreath laying.

O/C    - Taps (American equivalent of the Last Post)

O/C    - One minute silence.

O/C    - Closing address by the event founder (Bob Parker).

The Ride: 

It is intended for the 'Ride' to proceed from Cambridge Services at 12.30pm. Hopefully, under the auspices of Cambridge Police, although our own marshals will be available throughout. All the key locations and the route of the ride can be found on our maps page (opens in a new page).

Ride Etiquette

  • No overtaking.
  • Keep to one lane in staggered formation.
  • Wear appropriate clothing
  • Respect other road users

The Cemetery

It is hoped that we can get 104 Squadron Air Training Corps to Marshal the AWC parking again this year, if not we will provide our own marshals. Please follow the direction of the marshals and park as indicated by the red arrows on the map below. Once parked, proceed toward the Flagstaff where the ceremony will take place commencing at 13:25.

You are invited to spend time visiting all areas of the cemetery and actively encouraged to walk amongst the gravestones as well as visiting the Memorial building, Tablets of the Missing and the Visitors building, see The Cemetery page for further details (opens in a new window).

 

After the Ceremony

After the ceremony, there will be a social gathering at The Three Horseshoes, 22 South Street, Comberton (approximately 3.5 miles south of the AWC) where the pub are laying on a barbcue for you to purchase some food! There will also be a raffle and auction held at the pub. The social will continue into the evening.
